fatherly wisdom

I had lunch with my Dad yesterday.

I love my Dad.

He's the most amazing person I know.
Every time we get together
I feel like I need to tape record it,
because he is full of amazing insight and
has experienced so much
and has some of the most amazing stories.

(WRITE A BOOK, DAD!)

Anyway..

He gave me four sayings that
he believed I would connect to.

And they did.

The first is one I've heard before, but love to be reminded of it because
it really is important to remember.

Growing is learning to flow with, rather than fight, your own greatness.

It is so true that this is a huge struggle in life,
and only recently have I started to really pay attention to
making sure I don't get in my own way.

The second is not much of a saying, but rather my Dad explaining
his philosophy on self-improvement.

You are already complete.
No one or thing can make you complete. Understanding and internalizing this the difficulty.

I think it is so interesting to understand this.
It's not the difficulty of trying to become complete that we struggle with.
It's the understanding and internalizing of the concept that
we are complete
that we struggle with.

The third one came after we started speaking about spirituality and religion.
My Dad and I are both very spiritual people.
I've never been affiliated with any organized religion,
but I have always had a very close relationship
to God.

God is in you.

It's interesting that my Dad said this, because we really had never discussed
our beliefs on this before.
I had believed this from a very early age.
I once wrote a paper my junior year of High School about how
I'd like to have a conversation with my sub-conscious because
I believed it to be how I was connected to
and communicated with God.

The last one is a "hippie" saying
my Dad used to say back when he looked like the picture above :)

Stay high, keep moving and give all of yourself away.

He explained further,
"In other words, 'stay happy and lifted, keep energized, and be
upfront and honest - don't hide anything.'"
I couldn't agree more.

Thanks, Dad, for yet another awesome lunch.
I love you.

Love,
liz xo
